We have had our silkie and duck projects posted for sale for a while now. I spend so much on the rabbits and they are easier for me to breed and clean! That I have felt terrible about the feed bill the birds run up. I love both projects and delight in them on a daily basis, but when it comes down to dollars, which sadly we have to pay attention to in our house. :( *phooey* the silkies like to hatch more then lay and the ducks LOVE to eat. The ducks do love to lay but since I am allergic I really keep them for my feeding my soul and putting duck in the freezer. In our lot it is a lot of mess and work to keep them going. And my back may not be up to it. Neither is my schedule, trying to keep the kids at the table to finish their lessons! It seems a party is thrown in my dinning room anytime I go out during the day to do chores, and by evening my body is putting up complaints.
So it seems I may have a buyer for the ducks, they are wishing to pick up this next weekend, we shall see if it comes to fruitation. you just never know until cash is in hand. I am so sad to think of them leaving. We so love having ducks in the yard during good weather, chattering and muttering at us as we sit outside enjoying a glass of wine under the torch lights. I have many great memories of nights like that with my husband after we put the kids to bed, getting a few moments alone.
This could mean though that I can focus on the Silkies, maybe? They would enjoy the duck pen, and we could put the hard feathered birds into the large coop to lay us eggs for cooking. Sounds nice. Those Silkies can be so tough though.... I am worried by next fall I will be wishing they had sold instead of my water fowl friends.
Best Wishes
