Sadly Alice had a visit from the smut fairy!
We had wonderful comments, really great ones! But the judge was tough and fair and DQ'ed both our boys, for a light smudge of smut I hadn't seen in our barn lighting. Show B the judge loved Hawk, and not Nick. Someday I hope to explain to you all the sad giggles I get from watching the different judges reactions to Nick. Nick was quickly put away, and in the end Jazkabor's Hawkeye was given BOB of a class of 21! Wow. <3 We also had made a call prior to the show to our fellow breeders "Beach Buddies" and were brought a very even lilac buck to bring home with us. I was really impressed with him and more then happy to seal the deal. :) Beach Buddie's Thislte
Sadly, though it was a blast with friends, it was our least favorite show we have ever been to. The first judge was tough, and all three of our bucks were disqualified. I found that .... different. Then show B the judge chatted with another breeder the entire time, made comments about our buns I have never heard and did not understand but the worst thing was the looks she gave the other breeder each time she took out one of our rabbits. We also felt unwelcome for the first time. It makes me wonder how oddly some people are in competition. If no other breeders showed up how would you be competing? Why would you want other lovers of your breed to feel disrespected and uncomfortable? If you successfully pushed out the others how would you ever earn GC legs unless your prepared to lie on your entry forms, or stack the class. Very odd.
We are trying our best to blow it off and keep moving forward for our love of bunnies. <3
We loved being with friends, hanging out as a family. Spending time chatting with a lot of acquaintances and sitting down with one of our favorite mentors. My kiddo was very excited to write for a class judging or two and learn more about the job of being an ARBA judge.
That is our year showing so far. :D
