I tried to get some nice pictures of the kits I am retaining. Not sure how I feel about any of them right now, making myself wait out this (what I hope) is an ugly phase. They come from such beautiful parents. You can see them on our Buck and Doe pages. Though Nick still doesn't have a great picture for type, but the cutest "sniff the camera" shots. ;)

Daisy got her nest box yesterday! I thought she was on day 28 on Monday, and oops- she was really day 30. Luckily she isn't an early bird. Today, 31, I am excitedly noticing differences. She is laying in an abnormal fashion. And spent quite a bit of time today "grooming" her sides, which I have never seen her do before. I am really excited she is NOT using her box as a permanent resting place/litter box like she did last year. I wish I could say I had seen any hair laying about, or hay moved around but sadly NO! Just crossing my fingers she puts those babies IN the BOX! Come on, Daisy Baby, you can do it! I have a VIDEO of Daisy on our Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/jazkabor.farms Oh, oh, oh, I think I just made a youtube upload! Hopefully you can view my video below. :D As we had planned we sent Flying Paws Alice, Jazkabors Hawkeye, and Jazkabor's Nick to St Helens show in January. Hawkeye was leading show A judge loved him, but was DQed for a genital abscess, very disappointing. Next judge was tougher on color, and Alice won BOB her first GC leg. We were so happy for her! She has been in Cactus's Maria Ross' shadow for so long. ;) Sadly Alice had a visit from the smut fairy! So after Nick went down to a friends for a stud call. Boy do I love this guy! We sent Jazkabor's Hawkeye to Grants Pass show, where his brother Nick would meet up with him. The boys did not look their best. But Nick came home with his first two legs! * I believe it was BOSB and BOV* We had planned and looked forward all year to attend, what were our first two ARBA shows (ever) the year before, Canby and Portland. We really love the group of exhibitors we have met locally. <3 We had wonderful comments, really great ones! But the judge was tough and fair and DQ'ed both our boys, for a light smudge of smut I hadn't seen in our barn lighting. Show B the judge loved Hawk, and not Nick. Someday I hope to explain to you all the sad giggles I get from watching the different judges reactions to Nick. Nick was quickly put away, and in the end Jazkabor's Hawkeye was given BOB of a class of 21! Wow. <3 We also had made a call prior to the show to our fellow breeders "Beach Buddies" and were brought a very even lilac buck to bring home with us. I was really impressed with him and more then happy to seal the deal. :) Beach Buddie's Thislte Since Alice was grounded with smut we looked everyone over to pick a third bun. Sam was selected as the best looking at the moment. Since Maria was found with her fist smut ever, and Daisy I am not sure I have ever seen smut free- though I have a real hard time telling with her. So we took three of our bucks to the show and planned to have a real great time with friends!
Sadly, though it was a blast with friends, it was our least favorite show we have ever been to. The first judge was tough, and all three of our bucks were disqualified. I found that .... different. Then show B the judge chatted with another breeder the entire time, made comments about our buns I have never heard and did not understand but the worst thing was the looks she gave the other breeder each time she took out one of our rabbits. We also felt unwelcome for the first time. It makes me wonder how oddly some people are in competition. If no other breeders showed up how would you be competing? Why would you want other lovers of your breed to feel disrespected and uncomfortable? If you successfully pushed out the others how would you ever earn GC legs unless your prepared to lie on your entry forms, or stack the class. Very odd. We are trying our best to blow it off and keep moving forward for our love of bunnies. <3 We loved being with friends, hanging out as a family. Spending time chatting with a lot of acquaintances and sitting down with one of our favorite mentors. My kiddo was very excited to write for a class judging or two and learn more about the job of being an ARBA judge. That is our year showing so far. :D Blue Buck from Flying Paws Alice X Jazkabor's HawkeyeBlack Buck from Cactus' Maria Ross X Jazkabor's NickChocolate Buck from Cactus' Maria Ross X Jazkabor's NickYou can see parents, grandparents, and their winnings on our Himalayan Buck and Doe pages. We also have a Jr doe (black) with nicer type then these boy but she is breeder quality because she has a nip taken out of her ear.
